Let's enjoy Pink Saturday!! January 30, 2010

Hello and welcome dear friends as we celebrate another fun Pink Saturday!! As always, I want to say "thank you" to Beverly from "How Sweet the Sound" for hosting us each week. This is my final review of pinks from around my cottage home for this past year. I will have new pinks for next week. This past week was a wonderful week for me as I celebrated my 100th post and my 59th birthday! I had a terrific birthday celebrating with you, family and friends! I love life and am thankful for each year God has given me to enjoy this beautiful earth! We have had lots of rain these past two days here in Central Texas, and today was very cold, but all this rain will be wonderful for our gardens this spring. I hope you have had a good week. Please visit all the other pink participants by going here: http://howsweetthesound.typepad.com/my_weblog/

Enjoy your weekend and thank you so much for coming by for a visit. I love and appreciate each one of you!

Give me a sense of humor, Lord,
Give me the grace to see a joke,
To get some humor out of life,
And pass it on to other folk!

What a wonderful world. . .

Fifty-nine years ago, Dibb and Roween Smith and big sister, Myra, welcomed their baby girl into the world. It was a cold January day in a little country hospital in the town of Hale Center, Texas, on the plains of West Texas. In West Texas, they say the only thing that is between you and the cold northern wind is a barbed wire fence!! That little baby girl was me!! And today I am celebrating my 59th birthday with a rose covered pink cake, some good fresh hot coffee, and punch, so please join me in the celebration. I have always loved life and look forward to what each new day may have in store for me. The words of this song usually sung by Louis Armstrong pretty well sums up how I feel about living:

I see trees of green, red roses, too
I see them bloom for me and you
And I think to myself, what a wonderful world

I see skies of blue and clouds of white
The bright blessed day, the dark sacred night
And I think to myself, what a wonderful world

The colors of the rainbow, so pretty in the sky
Are also on the faces of people going by
I see friends shaking hands saying, "How do you do?"
They're really saying, "I love you!"

I hear babies crying, I watch them grow
They'll learn much more than I'll ever know
And I think to myself, what a wonderful world
Yes, I think to myself, what a wonderful world
(lyrics by George Weiss and Bob Thiele)

And now, to announce the winner of my 100th post give away. I placed all the names in a large straw hat, closed my eyes, and drew out the name: Amy, of Bunny Rose Cottage!! Amy is a sweet and kind friend who loves her home and family. She loves springtime, bunnies and roses like me. Congratulations, Amy. Please visit Amy's lovely Bunny Rose Cottage by going here: http://bunnyrosecottage.blogspot.com/
You will enjoy your visit with her!! To all of you who visited and helped me celebrate my 100th post, "Thank you" for your kind comments. Thank you, too, sweet friends for stopping by to help me celebrate my birthday. I hope your week has been a good one!

Celebrating my 100th post and having a little giveaway!! Welcome friends!!

Hello and thank you so much for stopping by today! A few days ago, I did my 100th post! When I started my Bunny Cottage blog last July, I never knew what fun it would be, nor did I realize the friends I would make. If you look back at my first two posts, you will get quite a smile because obviously I really didn't have a clue what I was doing. But then, I started to "get the hang of it", and here I am today. I want to thank each of you for your friendship and encouragement these past few months. Each one of you with your unique personality and style mean a great deal to me! To celebrate I would like to have a little giveaway. I love birds and journals and vintage images so that is what I will be having for you on my giveaway. The journal and the tags are from a shop on Etsy called "Bellaseradesigns" and the brooch is from a shop on Etsy called "blossom design" (all the way from England). If you would like to be entered in my giveaway, just leave a comment on this post. I will put all the names in a hat and draw out a winner on Thursday, January 28th. I hope you are having a great week, sweet friends!

Let's Celebrate Pink!! Happy Pink Saturday to you! January 23, 2010

Hello, dear friends! Are you ready to celebrate PINK? You are in for a treat as you visit all the participants for Pink Saturday to see what pinks they have in store for you. I also want to say a special "thank you" to Miss Beverly of "How Sweet the Sound" who hosts us each week. Today, I am showing various pinks from around Bunny Cottage from this past year. The roses were blooming in my garden last spring and summer. We have been having a premature spring here in Central Texas. I even saw some little daffodils peeking their heads up from the dirt in my garden. I am sure we will probably still have some cold weather before spring is officially here, but I am enjoying the sunshine while I can. We have truly seen love in action this past week as we have witnessed the military men and women, rescue workers, doctors and nurses, missionaries, and all the relief agencies from around the world minister to the hurting people of Haiti. We will continue to pray and support our brothers and sisters in Haiti and all of those there on the scene who are helping. I hope you had a good week and are looking forward to an enjoyable weekend. I appreciate you so much and am thankful for each of you! Sending lots of love and blessings your way! Valentine memories. . .

These Valentines remind me of the ones I received as a young girl. Each year I would look forward to our Valentine Party in elementary school. The teacher would ask us to decorate a box to hold our Valentines from the party. My momma was very creative, and she would always help me decorate a shoe box for the special day. We would cut a slit in the top for the Valentines to drop through. Momma would make crepe paper ruffles on her Singer sewing machine to place all around the box. We would further embellish it with lacy doilies, glitter, ribbons and flowers. I was always so proud to take my "masterpiece" to school and show the other children. We would ooh and aahh over each other's boxes and then eagerly start to pass out our Valentines. Our party usually consisted of lots of sugar: cookies, chocolate and candy hearts with punch. When I got home, I would take out my cards, and my momma and I would look at each one again. It was a very special day!

If you had a boyfriend at school, you would trade "disks" with him. The girls and boys would go to Woolworths and purchase a chain and a round disk or heart shaped disk and have their names engraved on the disks. You would then give your boyfriend your disk, and in turn, he would give you his. And yes, the chains would turn your neck green. I guess once you had traded disks with someone, you were officially "going steady"! I have a lot of special memories of Valentines Day and still enjoy celebrating it today. When I was teaching school, I made sure each of my students got a Valentine from me so they would feel very special. The children still enjoy this party where friendship and love are celebrated.

Roses are red,
Violets are blue,
Sugar is sweet
and so are you!

May your week be filled with lots of sweetness and love!

Pink Saturday/Prayer for the people of Haiti. . .January 16, 2010

Hello, dear friends and welcome to Pink Saturday so graciously hosted each week by Beverly from "How Sweet the Sound" I am doing a year in review of some pinks from around Bunny Cottage this past year. I hope you enjoy looking at my pinks, and that they bring some cheer to your day. Let us also remember the people of Haiti who have suffered an indescribable tragedy. Please pray for them, and if you are so inclined, you can make a monetary donation to the relief effort. Colin Powell said he would recommend donating through the Red Cross. If you go to their website, you can make a donation with your credit card and earmark the funds specifically for the people of Haiti. I believe that CNN also has some reputable agencies on their website through which you can donate.

Please visit Ms. Beverly and all the other "pinkies" by going here: http://howsweetthesound.typepad.com/my_weblog/
You are in for a real treat!

Thank you for coming by for a visit and brightening my day! Just a thought in closing: "The glory is not in never failing, but in rising every time you fall."~Chinese proverb

Happy White Wednesday, January 13, 2010

Hello, dear and kind friends! Thank you for stopping by for another fun White Wednesday. As most of you know, I am a pink girl, but I do have a little white around my house. I love white and think it always looks so classy and elegant. The top picture is a bird house in my garden, and I am so longing for spring when little birds will build their nest in it. I have been watching a pair of cardinals and a pair of bluejays at my feeder on my patio. Love those sweet birds! Next, you see some beautiful vintage millinery on a lovely wall hanging made by a sweet friend. The third picture is a pair of my baby shoes made from felt. Can you see the holes where the moths have been? Then you see my baby dress. Also, a favorite little pillow with some crochet, embroidery and pearl buttons. I am closing with a vintage Valentine. I am looking forward to Valentine's Day, aren't you? Aren't we lucky we have a special day to celebrate LOVE? This was always my favorite party day at school, both as a teacher and as a student. I loved those corny but sweet little Valentines we received from our classmates. And, sometimes, we found out we had a "secret admirer"!!!

Please visit Kathleen of "Faded Charm" to see all the other whites today. Thank you, Kathleen, for being our hostess each week. To visit Kathleen and the other participants please go here: http://fadedcharmcottage.blogspot.com/

I hope you have had a good week so far and that the weather is a little warmer for you now!! Have a blessed rest of the week!
